Lung cancer

Pleural mesothelioma is one of the most common types of lung cancer and is usually brought on by exposure to asbestos. Doctors look for a substance called carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA) - high levels of which may suggest the presence of lung cancer rather than mesothelioma. Sometimes it is hard to tell the difference between malignant mesothelioma and lung cancer. Lung cancer is more common and arises in the lungas inner tissues opposed to mesothelioma, which develops in the tissue that covers the lung. Pleural mesothelioma is often incorrectly labeled as a type of lung cancer because of the pleura's close proximity to the lungs. In addition, other cancers can exhibit the same symptoms as pleural mesothelioma cancer, such as small cell lung cancer or non-small cell lung cancer. Treatment options for mesothelioma lung cancer may include surgery, chemotherapy, radiation, and clinical trials. When mesothelioma lung cancer develops, the disease starts out as a genetic mutation that plagues healthy cells with abnormality. Treatments The seriousness of mesothelioma lung cancer will determine the best course of action for treatment. Asbestosis may also be present in people suffering from asbestos-caused cancers such as mesothelioma and lung cancer.
